Helping You Have A Healthy, Happy Smile
When you smile, the world smiles with you. Here at our Liskeard dental practice, we love nothing more than creating healthy, happy smiles that you’ll love for years to come. Whether cosmetic, general or restorative, we work to make your teeth our top priority. That’s why we’re a trusted name in dentistry, and why we’re proud to serve generations of families at our dental practice.
When it comes to looking after your teeth, we’ve noticed our patients asking us the same kinds of questions over the years – from whether flossing really makes a difference, to which type of toothpaste is the best to buy. We’re dedicating this post to these common questions – so if you want that healthy, happy smile, read on to find out what our expert Dentists have to say!
What toothpaste and toothbrush should I use?
Our Dentists do like to make recommendations on an individual basis, but it’s worth saying that a softer toothbrush is generally better for your smile, as it’s more gentle on gums while still being effective on your teeth. In terms of which toothbrush brand to buy, or whether to choose electric or manual, again we would advise you on this during an appointment at our dental practice.
Toothpaste can be more complicated, as there are different varieties – not only are we seeing more and more whitening options, but we’re seeing charcoal, sensitive and even different flavoured types on the market. Again, book in with our dental practice, and we can talk you through which options could work for you.
When should I use mouthwash?
Not all patients at our dental practice like to use mouthwash – and if you’re cleaning your teeth as recommended, you shouldn’t really need it. However, we know that some people enjoy the feeling of using mouthwash, which can help freshen your breath and help make your teeth feel clean.
If you want to incorporate mouthwash into your dental routine, our Dentists recommend using one with fluoride in it, which could benefit your teeth. Though it can be tempting to swill a mouthful after brushing, it could actually rinse away the fluoride from your toothpaste. So, our Dentists suggest using it at a different time in the day – like after lunch, for example. It’s also important that you wait at least half an hour before eating or drinking when you’ve used it!
How can I make sure I’m looking after my smile properly?
There are lots of ways you’ll know you’re taking good care of your teeth:
– Regular brushing and flossing – 2 times a day for 2 minutes
– Appointments with a Dentist or Hygienist, as recommended by our dental practice
– Eating a balanced diet, and cutting down on sugary foods and drinks
– Reducing the amount you smoke and drink (or stopping, if applicable)
